Hospital Philosophy
Our philosophy of veterinary practice is to combine and integrate the values we feel important in our lives with our daily work. This would include treating our clients, staff and patients with the compassion and respect that we would appreciate from others. While caring for our patients, the staff of Alpine Animal Hospital take into consideration the emotional wellbeing as well as the physical wellbeing of animals. Our staff are “Fear Free” certified, trained in recognizing animal abuse and neglect and everyone on the team works together to provide the knowledge and tools to our clients to provide a safe and healthy environment for their pets at home. We wish to deliver the highest quality of medical care we can, both to help the client/patient who have come to us and to enhance our own satisfaction in our profession. As a part of our philosophy we discourage clients from performing controversial procedures that can be painful and unnecessary; procedures include debarking, declawing, and ear cropping. We will perform such procedures only when it is a matter of survival for the pet. We also believe in a humane and peaceful end of life experience for our patients and strive to make it as calm and painless as possible. At the end of the day we hope we have delivered our services with respect for both the persons’ and animals’ dignity and delivered a level of service that we can be proud of.

Company History

Alpine Animal Hospital had its origins as a single doctor clinic started by Dr. C.G. Dewell in 1963. The original practice was located at an old house which is now part of the Ranch at Roaring Fork. AAH began as a small mixed animal practice based out of a house and over the years morphed into a larger, multi doctor practice. Over the years we have adapted and grown into a modern, well respected small animal and dental specialty hospital that strives to provide high quality medicine to the people and animals of the Roaring Fork Valley.

The mission and Philosophy of Alpine Animal Hospital originated with its founders Dr. Dewell and Dr. Rice. Though not formally put to paper, they were known to practice in a highly ethical manner and to strive to take care of their patients and clients as their primary goals. The more formalized practice mission statements and philosophy came about gradually as the current ownership recognized a need for more structure as the practice continued to grow. Though this is a more formal approach, we have attempted to maintain the same desire to practice our craft with the same quality and compassion as the original founders demonstrated for us.
