Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists is looking for an experienced Emergency Veterinary Technician to join us as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.
As an Internal Medicine Veterinary Technician, you will work with a team of highly trained ER Veterinarians that are committed to supporting the knowledge and growth of the ER Technicians. You will have the opportunity to utilize your skills to the fullest.
Role Responsibilities:
- Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
- Assist veterinarians and the medical team with hospital functions to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
- Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with your state’s Veterinary Practice Act as outlined for credentialed veterinary technicians.
- Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and additional treatments.
- Obtain relevant health history and information from clients, maintain comprehensive and accurate medical records, and utilize practice systems to support documentation.
- Assist with diagnostic procedures including ultrasound, endoscopy, rhinoscopy, bronchoscopy.
- Collect, prepare, and process laboratory samples (blood, urine, feces, cytology, cultures, etc.) for in-house or reference laboratory testing.
- Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as directed, ensuring accurate dosage and documentation.
- Monitor and record vital parameters for hospitalized and anesthetized patients, adjusting care as needed.
- Maintain and operate diagnostic and anesthetic equipment, ensuring proper function and cleanliness.
- Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and maintain clean, sterile, and organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and laboratories.
- Provide compassionate, clear communication to clients, including updates on patient status and home care instructions.
- Be willing to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members in a collaborative environment.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to advance technical skills and knowledge in internal medicine.
Experience & Skills Requirements:
- Prefer one year of recent experience in an emergency or specialty setting
- Basic tech skills required include venipuncture, anesthesia, nursing care
- Commitment to working within a team environment
- Positive, will-do attitude!
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Proven ability to multi-task in a busy work setting
- Professional demeanor and outgoing personality
